Accepting the 2020 election and protecting our Country

By Nellie Curtiss …

Thursday night, Michael Moore, academy award winning filmmaker, said on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert that President Elect Joe Biden will bring much needed change including inclusion and fairness and will not hold grudges. It’s pretty clear to me that he will also bring stability, calm, unification and thank God, no more Twitter word wars.

President Elect Biden will be the second president in USA history to be a practicing Catholic.  His faith, as Colbert and Moore discussed, is an active conviction. They believe his faith will compliment his presidential role and so pulling babies out of mothers’ arms at the border won’t happen; and all are hoping the new administration can reunite the families torn apart as if they were caged, detained, imprisoned in Germany and Poland during World War II.

A lot of Democrats on Facebook believe that KINDNESS will return with this new president. “Van Jones Political commentator,” as reported by The Guardian on Nov. 7, 2020, “cried as CNN called the US election for Joe Biden. Jones said: ‘It’s easier to be a parent this morning … to tell your kids character matters’.” He wiped tears from his eyes as he looked away from the camera.

Moore talked about President Elect Biden’s choice of Senator Kamala Harris as his Vice President. During the 2019 Democrat Debates, Harris disagreed with Biden on busing and civil rights. Whereas Americans have watched bullying in action these past four years, the way that Biden turned around from the heat of the 2019 debate to name Harris his VP, speaks to his character of not holding grudges but embracing those with different views, says Moore.

With character mattering comes kindness and a return to thoughtful words and expressions, the voters are looking forward to Biden as leader to bring some stability to the nation fighting Covid19 and financial collapse with so many citizens out of jobs. There is hope that Covid19, now at more than 240,000 American deaths, will be ramped down because of new leadership that embraces the CDC guidelines: wear a mask, wash hands, stay six feet (or more) apart.

The women on ABC’s The View (Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, Sara Haines and sometimes co-host Ana Navarro) look forward to President Elect Biden working with scientists and medical doctors to lead the nation out of the grips of the pandemic into a fully functioning society again.

Cindy McCain, life-long republican and the widow of Arizona Senator John McCain, was quoted Thursday in the Daily Mail (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8943671/Cindy-McCain-says-Joe-Biden-won-Arizona.html). “Cindy McCain congratulated President-elect Joe Biden for winning her home state of Arizona and called President Donald Trump’s plan to challenge results with lawsuits ‘frivolous’ and ‘unfounded.’”

In her statement, McCain citing “Arizona’s best interest and America’s national security interest” called for Biden’s administration to be able to read “intelligence briefings and other crucial data on the threats we face.” She added it is important for his team “to meet with the government officials who are handling the pandemic response as COVID-19 is spiking across our country.”

McCain concluded her statement with, “President-elect Biden and I have been friends for over 40 years. He is a man of honor and defined by his love of the United States and particularly our troops, as was my husband, John. Our country needed a new direction to heal the wounds caused by the outgoing administration; Arizonans showed up in record numbers and I am pleased that many joined me supporting Joe Biden, who has won Arizona’s 11 Electoral Votes. Of all people, I know what it is like to lose an election, so I am sympathetic to those who wished the election had come out another way, but I remember John’s example in 2008 of accepting the decision of the voters and moving on to the next challenge. So I hope all Arizonans and Americans will join me in congratulating President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris.” (https://www.johnmccain.com/2020/11/cindy-mccain-statement-on-the-2020-election)

Also, Twitter has been blocking fake news, and promoting vetted reports. So, like Colbert, Moore, the women of The View, McCain, Colorado voters and 75,000,000 plus voters, I believe that President Elect Joe Biden and his administration brings back calm, empathy, pandemic leadership, political decorum to the governance of the United States of America and most of all a much-needed recovery from Twitter word wars.
