Cinnamon toast with a twist

By Nellie Curtiss …

Great! I just sprinkled a warm spice on my oat-nut toast prepared with margarine and a dash of sugar to then be creamed to create Cinnamon Toast. Last night, I dreamed about Cinnamon Toast; and so, I was imagining that toaster pastry taste with a cup of coffee.  Then, I realized I had peppered CUMIN, not cinnamon! OMG.

I burst into laughter. I thought, “How did I do this?” I saw the right color, and a big C on the label. I roared again in laughter. I clapped my hands.  Then Schroeder ran for his Kong ball—he does that whenever and wherever I laugh out loud.  I laughed again when he slid back around the stove with his ball.

As much as I could, I scraped the Cumin off the toast; some sugar and margarine rolled off, too. Then I sprinkled real Cinnamon for that long-awaited deliciousness without the CUMIN.

Google showed me a link that shows Cumin is good for medicinal applications, urine flow, and for culinary compliments on beef and vegetarian dishes. It is also often used in Chili and fajitas. I just don’t think it is good for me at this breakfast.

It seems to me this experience is a metaphor of what we’re going through right now with the politicizing of the vaccines for covid19.  From various mis-information feeds, we’ve sprinkled dis-information and propaganda onto the facts about the vaccine and covid19.

We have entertained Covid19 as: “Just the flu”; “No, big deal”; “Only the old get it”; and “They will die soon enough.”

The Vaccines, also, were warped into:

Big Government tracking ploy,

End to personal freedoms,

Not fully authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) so therefore not fully safe,

Side-effects can kill you.

When in actual data, the vaccines data shows that they are safe, not laced with tracking, and extend personal freedoms because they allow our bodies to fight against the unseen stealth virus.

As with all immunizations, some side effects like a sore arm or even an allergic reaction are minimal and can be treated. Also, increased numbers of unvaccinated people are in Intensive Care Units (ICU) with intubation and are facing death with every inhale.  Calls from several ICUs on CBS Evening News, Cuomo Primetime, and Don Lemon Tonight beg the unvaccinated to roll-up their sleeve and choose to live beyond Covid.  This week, Don talked with a young married man in ICU. He asked people to get vaccinated and avoid what he says could be his last breath for him. (https://twitter.com/donlemon/status/1423463575528542208?s=20 )

I have many allergies; and the list spans several pages. So, when I received my vaccines (first one at Walgreen’s and the second at Alamosa County Public Health drive up with Emily Brown, acting director and team) I was not released to drive home until 15 or 20 minutes passed to assure no allergic reaction happened.  If it had, treatments were ready. I remember years ago, I was in Xray for a procedure with dye. It turned out I was immediately allergic to the dye; my breathing was tight; my face swelled; my throat was closing; I felt like I was on fire. But right then, the doctors and nurse administered anti-allergy that didn’t let the allergy harm me.

The vaccine is designed to save life, to let everyone continue to be free to live and breathe. Let’s peel off this layer of dis-information (like that cumin) which is more harmful than you think, and let’s relish the shot in the arm thereby allowing us to sing, dance and catch fly balls at family reunions again.

  1. I enjoyed this immensely. Life is about scraping off the cumin and being strong willed enough to carry on. I am in Chicago with VICKY. Small town woman in big big city. We are getting her settled in. We are in Rogers Park which is northern Chicago. The neighborhood is beautiful. Lots of older homes, flowers everywhere. We are 2 blocks from Lake Michigan. I understand it’s very cold here at times. We are also next to the blue line train which will take her to school, 20 minutes. She was blessed yesterday with a new friend, a puppy. We are masked up and asking our Lord for strength. Praying for you and yours.
